About the Quest

Since 2024, Vata Foundation co-founder Uday Krishna has traveled across India to find, photograph, and preserve the memory of the country's oldest surviving trees. Over 40,000 kilometers, 140 trees, and 27 states later, this journey became The Big Tree Quest. Each tree carries more than age. It carries memory. It carries the landscape. And now, it carries a place in history.

Why this matters

Old trees are more than carbon sinks. They are biodiversity hubs, cultural markers, and community landmarks.

India's urban trees are disappearing faster than they are being recorded. The Big Tree Quest creates a visual and cultural memory of what we still have, and what we must not lose.
